Sheets of gold are beaten into gossamer thin pieces. They are placed on Buddha statues to bring merit to the faithful.

Golden Palace Monastery

 

The only remaining building of the 114 on the palace grounds. The rest were destroyed during WWII.

The building is made of teak with intricate carvings inside and out.

Visit to Kuthodaw Pagoda - a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Site of the world's largest book. Each of the 729 stupas contains a page in the book.
It was built between 1860 and 1868.
The pages are carved on marble slabs and contain the teachings of Buddhism
