One
of the best activities to do in the winter besides ski is to go
snowmobiling. We think the best company to tour with in the Aspen/Snowmass
area is Western Adventures Inc. In 2005 we hit a picture perfect
day for our tour. It had snowed a foot the day before but our day
dawned without a cloud in the sky. Our friends Pat and Joyce Gay
joined us on the tour. There
were just the four of us in our group and we each drove our own
snowmobile. Our guide led us up the trail between snow covered trees,
stopping whenever we wanted for pictures. At one spot we could see
all four ski areas.
We
passed some skiers being towed by a snowmobile. They would take
turns pulling each other up to the top of the hill and then ski
down thru the fresh powder.
The
tour included a stop for lunch at an old hut where we had hot chocolate,
sandwiches and cookies. Beside the hut there was an open field where
we were able to play in the snow - racing each other around the
field in the powder.
Our guide decided we were experienced enough to handle some off
trail riding after lunch so we set off though some untracked snow.
Fred and Joyce each got stuck a couple times in deep snow and had
to be pulled out but that was part of the fun.
