This
page contains photos of the Sally Lightfoot Crab and the Ghost Crab.
The brightly colored Sally Lightfoot Crab are scavengers of the
coast. They will feast on anything they can get their claws on,
from sea lion placenta, to other crustacians - even their own kind.
Their name is thought to have originated from a Caribbean dancer
and refers to their inherent agility in jumping from rock to rock
and climbing vertical walls.
Ghost Crabs can be seen on sandy shores. These pale orange crabs
spend most of their time searching in the sand for micro-organisms,
leaving tiny sand balls they spit out. They get their name from
the speed at which they disappear into their holes.
